Frances Catherine is a biological daughter of William Peter Stevenson, who is recorded on her birth certificate as a coach builder at the Queen's palace. It is believed her mother was a domestic worker there. Her mother and father were both about 32 at her birth.

William Peter Stevenson was not married to her mother, Jane Jeeves, daughter of Elizabeth Bywater and William Jeeves of Sandy, Bedfordshire, England.

Stevenson later married Elizabeth Martha Dixon 6 April 1865 at St. Mary's, Balham Hill, Streatham, Surrey, England.

Jane Jeeves probably married George Shelton after 1875 and is listed as his wife on the 1881 Census, same location. Frances Catherine was about 19, so Shelton did not actually raise her.

Frances Catherine had carried the Jeeves surname until her mother's marriage to George Shelton, a widower.

This Shelton marriage had been "estimated" at about 1858, but George Shelton's first wife did not die until 1874 and they are recorded as a family together on the Northhill, Bedfordshire, England Census of 1871.

Both Frances' natural father, and her stepfather, died in England, but her mother, Jane Jeeves Shelton, came to America sometime after 1891 and is buried at Kaysville, Davis, Utah.

Frances Catherine was the third wife of John Barton. They married 20 June 1892, at the Logan LDS Temple, Logan, Cache, Utah. She was unmarried at age 36, and 17 years younger than he.

She was 42 at the birth of their third and last son.

Children - Clifton Barton 1893-1975, md. Eloise Eva Burton; Eliot Shelton Barton 1896-1966, md. Ivy Ellen Broberg; and Morris Windsor Barton 1898-1959, md. Camelia Christensen.
