DAVENPORT -- Services for Donald L. Mecum, a resident of Davenport, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, with a prayer service offered at 5 p.m. Mr. Mecum died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001, at Genesis Medical Center-West Campus, Davenport. Donald Lee Mecum was born Nov. 29, 1932, in Pasadena, Calif., to William McKinley and Mabel Eleanor (Taylor) Mecum. He married Jacqueline Ann "Jackie" Day on Nov. 22, 1956, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. She died Jan. 27, 2001. Mr. Mecum retired from Alcoa in 1992, after more than 25 years of service. During this same time, he and his wife co-owned and operated, Don Mecum Accounting Co., Davenport. He was a veteran of the Army. Don was a member of the church, Northwest Business Associates, Alcoa Retirees Local 105 and Alcoa Retirees and a former member of the Elks, Moose and American Legion. He enjoyed the outdoors and had been an avid hunter and fisherman. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Church or American Lung Association. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Vicki Mecum, Palm Bay, Fla.; a granddaughter, Caitlin Mecum, Palm Bay; a foster daughter and her spouse, Christy and Brian Haulk, Iowa City; foster grandchildren, Tanner and Allyson Haulk, Iowa City; sisters, Dorothy L. Thomas and Mary Anna (Mrs. Quincy) Payne, both of Davenport, and Jean Youngman, DeWitt, Iowa; brothers, Robert Mecum, Battlegrounds, Wash., and Charles Mecum, Kansas City, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and brothers, George, William and Cleo, who died as in infant. May they rest in peace.
