THELMA PATE, 83 years old, passed away on February 5, 2014 at her home in Perris, CA. Thelma was born April 20, 1930 in Glendale, CA. Her family moved to Compton where she lived until she married Reid Pate in 1946. She and Reid moved to Long Beach in 1952 where they raised their two wonderful children while she worked at Sears for over 20 years. After leaving Sears, she and Reid bought the Red Witch Bar in Compton. In 1979 they moved to Perris where they bought the Good Hope Bar and Thelma ran it until 1994 when she retired. As a teen Thelma marched in the Rose Parade as a Baton Majorette. She enjoyed flower gardening, cooking and running her bars. She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 888 in Perris and previously held the position of Guard. Thelma is survived by her son Rawleigh Pate of Vancouver, WA; daughter Sheila Pate of Chino; grandsons Ben Hugo (Heather) of Chino, Kevin Hugo of Eastvale and Adam Stopka (Teresa) of Issaquah, WA; great-grandchildren Logan and Keira Hugo of Chino; sisters Esther Gruenhagen (Dick) of Downey; Bonnie Saas of Perris; sister-in-law Kay Pate of Victorville and several nephews and nieces. VISITATION: Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at Evans Brown Mortuary, 385 W. 4th Street, Perris 92570 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm. GRAVESITE SERVICES: Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Drive, Riverside 92518 promptly at 2:00 pm.
