Abigail Wolcott, dau. of Samuel Wolcott and Mary Wyatt, b. of record Apr. 21, 1752 at Wethersfield, Conn. (Weths. VRs.) She d. of record Dec. 24, 1831 at South Hadley, Mass. (g.s.)

On Jan. 30, 1772 at Newington, Conn. (Ch. Rec.), Abigail m. 1) Levi Wright, s. of Capt. Timothy Wright, Sr. and Sarah Walker, bapt. Nov. 7, 1745 at Wethersfield (Ch. Rec.) where he d. intestate and insolvent Feb. 5, 1776 (Ch. and Hartford Dist. Probate Rec.). They had two known children born at Wethersfield:

• i. Abigail "Abby" Wright, b. Mar. 7, 1774 [father's Probate Rec.], bapt. Nov. 9, 1775 (Weth. Ch. Rec.), d. Dec. 21, 1842 at South Hadley, Mass. (g.s.); m. Oct. 16, 1809 at South Hadley, Peter Allen, who d. at South Hadley Jan. 9, 1849 (g.s.). Two children of the family: Peter Allen (d. unm.) and Levi Wright Allen.

• ii. Prudence Wright, b. Jan. 7, 1776 [father's Probate Rec.], bapt. Feb. 4, 1776 (Weth. Ch. Rec.), d. in infancy Aug. 23, 1777 at Wethersfield.

Neither Levi Wright nor infant dau. Prudence have known gravestones at Wethersfield. His estate was judged insolvent with only the moveable estate distributed to the widow and nothing paid to creditors.

On Feb. 25, 1779 at Wethersfield (VRs and Ch. Rec.), Abigail m. 2) Josiah Goodrich, the presumptive son of Elisha Goodrich and Rebecca Seymour, b. Jan. 15, 1738/9. He d. of bilious fever Oct. 29, 1798 at Pittsfield, Mass. They had seven children, who are summarized in their father's memorial.

Abigail's first child, Abby Wright, was a noted schoolmistress at South Hadley and operated a female academy from 1803 to 1811. In the early stages of her school, the students were obliged to board throughout South Hadley. As the school expanded, Abby's widowed mother Abigail relocated from Pittsfield to South Hadley to assist her in purchasing property to handle the boarding problem. Following her marriage to Peter Allen in 1809, Abby continued managing the school for another two years until her half-sister Sophia Goodrich took over operation.
