Elizabeth Rhoades, 92, of Torrington died Oct. 19 at the Goshen Care Center.

She was born July 27, 1912, in Saratov, Russia, the daughter of Michael and Marie (Stoll) Schwab. When she was 6 months old, she moved with her family from Russia to Fruita, Colo., and then Grand Junction. In 1922, the family moved to Torrington, where she received her education. She then worked at the Goshen County Nursing Home and Wagon Wheel Court for many years, retiring in 1977. She was the oldest and original member of the Platte Valley Gospel Church, and she served as the Sunday school secretary for more than 30 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Posten of Torrington and Barbara Gill of Cheyenne; three brothers, Michael Schwab Jr. of San Diego and Daniel Schwab and Charles Schwab, both of Torrington; three sisters, Martha Eisenbarth of Weiser, Idaho, Anna Gantz of Greeley, Colo., and Rose Grasmick of Scottsbluff, Neb.; three grandsons; a granddaughter; a step-grandson; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Mary Jones, Mollie Fegler and Emelia Skurla.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the River of Life Church, 1701 East F in Torrington, with the Rev. H.W. Thieman, Irene Thieman and the Rev. David Gill officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, and the casket will be open at the church service. Friends may contribute to the Torrington Goshen Care Center.
