Kay was born on July 25, 1945 to Neva (Sharp) and Clark Hill in South Bend, IN. She grew up on Crumstown Highway, and was a proud Washington Panther. The Washington Fight Song was one of the first songs her kids learned as they grew up: "Washington High School hats off to thee…."
Kay married Reginald D. Carpenter, Jr. on December 30, 1966. She remained close to his family after their subsequent divorce.
Ms. Carpenter was preceded in death by her parents, Reg, and her dear friends Mary Ann Scott and Norman Mangus.
Kay was a proud mom and grandma; she attended every school concert for which she was able (which was well over 100 when Jim & Glen were in the Clay Swing Choir!). If you spoke with her, it was inevitable that you'd see pictures of one or more of the grandkids. She also enjoyed talking with friends and family to hear about their lives and travels. Kay also LOVED Johnny Cash.
Kay took a medical retirement from the St. Mary's Convent, where she had worked for many years as a nurse's aide. She also worked as an in-home health care provider.
Cremation has taken place. A short celebration of Kay's life will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home at 11am Tuesday, December 31, 2013, to which all are welcome.
Memorial gifts are suggested to Clay Church Choir, or the Bethel College Choral Program.
