Roy Gene Calcaterra, 72, passed away at 4:18 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2010, in Friendship Care Center in Herrin.

Roy was born Dec. 28, 1937, the son of Carl T. and Josephine (Piantanida) Calcaterra.

He married Lorene Garavaglia on April 20, 1964, in Herrin. She survives in Herrin.

Roy was the former owner of Herrin Feed Store. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of Herrin Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Lorene Calcaterra of Herrin; one son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Dana Calcaterra of Herrin; grandchildren, Morgen and Ryley Calcaterra of Herrin; sister-in-law, Josephine Calcaterra of Herrin; aunts, Margie Calcaterra of Herrin and Adolpha Calcaterra of Herrin; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Carl L. Calcaterra.

A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2010, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin, with Monsignor Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will follow in San Carlo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
