A retired secretary at Redemptorist High School with 29 years of service and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 4 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2001, at Woman's Hospital. She was 82 and a native of Opelousas. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Visiting at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church, 5354 Plank Road, from 8:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday, celebrated by the Rev. Sam Maranto. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. She is survived by a son, Louis F. Romero III of Baton Rouge; a sister, Beatrice "Bea" Bourdier of Opelousas; five nieces and their husbands, Barbara and Joe Hidalgo of Opelousas, Serda Ann and Scott Tibbs of Franklin, Carline and Chuck Lee of Texas, Sue Carson of New York and Linda Carson of Lafayette; three nephews and their wives, Dr. Donald and Annette McSpadden of Jennings, Gene and Bessie Bourdier of Opelousas and Emmett and Patsy Carson of Lafayette; six great-nieces and 12 great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis F. Romero Jr.; a sister, Marie McSpadden; a brother, Herbert Fontenot; a niece, Billie Louise McSpadden; and two nephews, William Bourdier and Gerald Fontenot. She was a member of St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church since 1947, and a 1935 graduate of Opelousas High School. She was co-chairwoman of the St. Gerard Bereavement Committee, chairwoman of the St. Gerard Senior Citizens Craft Group, a member of the Ladies Altar Rosary Society and an LPB volunteer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Redemptorist High School Alumni Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
