Elia spent her life dedicated to her husband and her children. Elia was a wonderful cook and loved to travel. Her Catholic faith was very important to her and she was able to travel to Rome and see Pope John Paul II. Elia was an intelligent women and surprised most people with her math skills. Elia worked hard all of her life, rather it be in the Shipyards in California when she was 17 years old or running the U and R Shoe Store or providing a warm and loving home for her husband and six children. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved and adored her, even naming her "Grandmasita".
Elia was preceded in death by her husband, José A. Sánchez, son, Joe Herman Sánchez and parents, Florian and Juanita Sánchez Chávez.
Elia is survived by her loving children, daughter, Judy Vernon, daughter, Aggie and her husband, Bert, daughter, Louise and her husband, George, son, Gerald and his wife, Lorraine and daughter, Roseanna and her husband, Leroy, eleven grandchildren, James, Juanita, Cody, Shannon, Anthony, Nicole, Clay, Izaak, Joseph, Daniel and Carlos and nine great-grandchildren. Elia is also survived by her sister, Lucy and many nieces and nephews.
All services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Our Lady of Belén Catholic Church, beginning with a Viewing at 9:00 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. with Father Stephen Schultz presiding. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belén Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Andrew Sánchez, Anthony Aragón, Izaak Adler, Joseph Sisneros, Daniel Sisneros and Carlos Sánchez.
