Soldier,Legislator,Inventor,Postmaster Carpenter and Mechanic. Born Parker David Robbins in Bertie County North Carolina in 1834. He was mulatto with Chowan Indian background. Robbins was regarded as a free black. He was educated before he enter the Civil War. He had a farm of 120-acre. Parker D. Robbins in 1863 jointed the Union Army in Norfolk, Va. He became sergeant-major in the second U.S. Color Cavalry. Robbins resigned in 1866 due to illness. He went back home to Colerain North Carolina which was Bertie County. He also secured a patient of a new kind of cotton cultivator, and a device to sharpen saws. In 1877, he decided to move to Duplin County, where he established a sawmill and a cotton gin. While in Magnolia, Duplin County he built a steam boat and some houses. Second Regiments United States Colored Cavalry: Robbins, Parker D., Sergeant Major: Resided in Bertie County and enlisted at Fort Monroe, Virginia, on January 1, 1864, at the age of 29. Enlisted as a Private and appointed Sergeant Major on January 11, 1864. Present or accounted for until mustered out at Brazos Santiago, Texas, on February 12, 1866.
