Obituary for Mr. Charles Dewey Herrington

Charles Dewey Herrington, 84 of Sylvania, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at his residence under the care of Gentiva Hospice.

Charles was a native of Screven County and served in the US Army upon graduating high school. He was a master craftsman and retired as the owner and operator of The Carpet Shop, which he operated for 21 years from 1969 to 1990. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Sylvania and attended the Bible Witness Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vinia Clifton and Frank Eugene Herrington and a brother, Tommy Herrington.

He is survived by his wife, Athelon Anne L. Herrington, a son and daughter-in-law, Cliff C. and Lynne Herrington; daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Tim Callison, all of Sylvania, Laurie Anne and Ron Tyran of Eden and Terri and Mike Norton of Waynesboro; grandchildren, Charlie Anne and Andre Xaiver of Charlottesville, VA, Candace Callison and Timothy Callison, both of Sylvania.

Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00-7:00pm at the Screven Chapel of Joiner Anderson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 17, 2014 at 11:00am in the First Baptist Church of Sylvania, with the Rev. Dr. Charlie Cooper officiating.
Interment will follow in the Screven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Lovett, Eddie Hodges, Carl Herrington, Frank Herrington, Keith Gonya and Mitch Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the VFW Lodge # 7116, Ann Tyre, Betty Camby, L.D. McMillan, Joe Cleland, Billy and Bonnie Blackburn, Bob and DeWeese Grooms and the member of the Bible Witness Sunday School Class.

Joiner Anderson Funeral Home Screven Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.
