Leon Franklin Hale, Sr., 81, died Thursday, February 13, 2014, at the Lutheran Retirement Village at Utz Terrace in Hanover. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth E. Hale of Littlestown. Born November 7, 1932, in Upperco, Md., he was the son of the late Joshua Mitchell Hale and Elsie Elizabeth Spicer. Before retiring he was employed at Telemecanique, Gould and Rowan Controller. He served in Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed yard sales and working on tractors. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Leon Hale Jr. and fiancee, Tara Brookins of Sykesville, Md., and Robert Lee Hale, Sr. and wife, Kimberly of Littlestown; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Lynn Dorsey and husband, John of Tyaskin, Md., and Tina Nusbaum and husband, Norman Long, III of Spring Grove; brothers and sisters-in-law Marvin and Betty Hale of Hampstead, Md., Roland Hale of Upperco, Md., Joshua E. and Betty Lou Hale of Hampstead, and John and Darlene Hale of Manchester, Md.; and sisters, Ester and Donald Hale of Upperco, and Irene Krebs of Hampstead. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Kayla and Kara Lycliter, Chance Benjamin Leon Hale, Robert Lee Hale, Jr., Danielle Billings and husband, C.J., Amber Dorsey, Douglas Starry, Nicholas Lamdin, and Daniel and Matthew Nusbaum; three great-grandchildren, Hayden, Ava, and Ryan; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Jeanette Millender, Sidney Hale, Charles Hale, Leroy Hale, and Carrie Wagner. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, Md. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg, Md.
