Linda Suzanne Rankin, age 38, formerly of Richmond, died Thursday, December 22, 2011, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born January 28, 1973, in New Castle, Indiana, to Douglas W. and Karen S. Eastman Rankin. Linda was a 1991 graduate of Richmond High School, where she was involved in the band, swim team, and soccer and was part of the Homecoming Court. Linda was active in the eastside Optimist Softball League, volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club, and was a lifeguard at Wernle Home and the Municipal Pool. She was an active member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church. Linda attended Butler University and received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University East in 1996. She received her master's degree from Ottawa College in Arizona. Linda was a therapist and counselor at the Colorado Springs GLBT Pride Center. Survivors include her son, Brandon K. Long and his father Brennan Long of Chicago; her father, Douglas W. Rankin of Florida; her mother, Karen S. (John Brzuzy) Rankin of Richmond; four sisters, Roberta L. (Steve) Berhalter of North Port, Florida, Rebecca L. (Tommy Mayberry) Rankin of Plano, Texas, Kimberly S. (Timothy) Golbuff of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Mechelle Vance of Indianapolis; loving partner, Darla Slicton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; uncle, George L (Barbara) Eastman of Richmond; cousin, Jennifer M. (Tobin) Swafford of Richmond; nieces; nephews; many friends; and loving pet companions. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Howard and Betty Eastman and Webb and Mary Rankin. Visitation for Linda Suzanne Rankin will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011 at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1004 North A Street, Richmond. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2011, at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joseph T. Fields officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
