HENDRICKSON BARNES PASSES AWAY TUESDAY
Hendrickson Barnes, 83 years old, died Tuesday at his home here. He is survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters.
Funeral services were held at the McKee Undertaking Parlors at 3:35 p.m. today. Internment was in Greenwood cemetery, and Rev. L. P. Warford officiated.
Coming to Bemidji five years ago from Park Rapids, Mr. Barnes acquired a wide circle of friends here. He was born in western Iowa in 1846, and had followed farming as his life occupation.
Sons of Mr. Barnes are Chesley and Joe of Bemidji, Charles and George of Fergus Falls, and daughters surviving are Elsie of Fergus Falls and Marjorie of Faribault. A brother, Henry lives at Backus.
(Pleasant Barnes went by his middle name Henderson, and it is obviously mispelled here.)
On July 6, 1881 near Quorn, (a defunct town, which is actually near Kingsley Iowa.) Plymouth County, Iowa, Pleasant Barnes was struck by lightening along with 2 other fellows. The other 2 survived, and Pleasant went on with this scar on his chest. He made money showing this scar and telling his story at county fairs and circuses.
