Frank J. Lombard
Jan. 24, 1932 - Jan. 24, 2014

Frank J. Lombard was born to Ila and Jess Lombard in Colorado Springs, Colo., Jan. 24, 1932, and passed away on Jan. 24, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Kenny, who passed at age three. He is survived by his wife, Joni; sister, Ila McFadden; son, Bob; two granddaughters; three stepsons, Bill, Rob and Den Waite; four step-grandchildren; three step-grandbabies; niece, Kelly Ward; and nephew, Mike Hatch.

Frank was very proud of his four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he returned to the University of Utah, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. He was also proud of his 36-and-a-half years working as a Civil engineer for the Department of Water Resources, retiring as a Principal Engineer in December 1995. Frank also served as President of the Sacramento Chapter of ASCE in 1981. He followed his father, Jess, working for the National Park Services during college. He grew up loving the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping with family and friends.

Frank and Joni enjoyed 11 years cruising on the Delta and San Francisco Bay before switching to a land yacht (motor home). Over the years he became very proficient at handling both vessels. He was known for his Lombardisms; he had quite a vocabulary and loved word play. He had an admirable list of longtime friends who enjoyed his sense of humor and humility.

A private interment of Frank's remains will be held on March 2, at East Lawn Cemetery, 4300 Folsom Blvd., in Sacramento, Calif. (95819), followed by a celebration of his life at 1 p.m., at the Carmichael Elks Lodge, 5631 Cypress Avenue in Carmichael, Calif. (95608).
