Robert Given1855-∼Eunice4 Martin (Rebecca3, Clement2, Thomas1} was born 9 June 1794 in Harpswell, Maine; married Joseph Merriman, who used the Merriman spelling of his name, son of Walter Merryman and Betsy Webber, on 29 November 1812 by the Rev. Samuel Eaton. She died 14 September 1849. Joseph Merriman was born 23 October 1788; died in April 1834, "at sea."
For some time he was a mariner in the West India trade, taking New England products to Cuba and Jamaica and returning with cargoes of molasses and tropical products. In 1826 he moved to Hartford, Connecticut, and was in the employ of S. & H. Fowler on Commerce Street He was then
employed by S. & W. Kellogg, merchants in the trade. He finally sailed for British Guiana, master of the brig Eight Sons and the vessel was never heard from." This statement is from the Merryman Genealogy by Charles Nelson
