William was the son of Henry Alford. He married Elenor Alderson on June 16, 1877 in Burnley, England. They came to the U.S. through Canada, where their daughter, Mary, was born, in 1881.
They first went to Iowa and then settled on a farm in Bon Homme co, SD. In 1891, they moved to a farm near Monowi, Boyd co, NE. They lived there until retiring around 1920, when they moved into Lynch, NE.
They had eleven children: Mary Heiser, Nellie, Elizabeth, Eliza, Lula, Edward, William T., Phyllis, Jessie and Ethel Haun, and one that passed away in England.
