Husband of Pauline Hill who resided in Keene, New Hampshire during the war.

Edwin served as a Machinist's Mate, Second Class, U.S.S. Bismarck Sea (CVE-95), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Massachusetts prior to the war.

The Bismarck Sea, while support the battle of Iwo Jima, was hit by two Japanese kamikazes and sank during the war. 318 crewmen, out of a crew of 923, were lost in this sinking during the war. The Bismarck Sea was the last US Navy aircraft carrier to be lost during World War II.

Edwin was declared "Missing In Action" in this sinking.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Service # 8030782

The Bismarck Sea received three battle stars for her World War II operations.
