The above dates are rough approximations. The birth year was suggested by Alden G. Beaman in an article in the Rhode Island Genealogical Register, vol 9, no. 1, pp 1-6. Sherman was still alive on 20 September 1757, so died sometime after then.

William was the son of Eber and Mary Sherman of Kingstowne, Rhode Island. His father had come from Portsmouth on Aquidneck Island to settle the Narragansett country, now North Kingstown. William was married to Abigail Palmer, the daughter of Edward Palmer. In 1880, James Sherman told George Harris that his great great grandparents, William and Abbie Sherman, were buried in this cemetery. There are nearly 40 field stones in this cemetery, but their graves have no inscribed markers.
