Billy Robert Bliss, 87, of Poolesville, Maryland, passed away on February 11, 2014, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.
Born in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Francis O'Donovan Bliss and Dorothy Cole Bliss.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy, and was an active member of the Upper Montgomery County Volunteer Fire Department for almost 61 years. He owned and operated Poolesville Supply Co., Inc. for 30 years, was a Nationwide Insurance agent and served as president of Banner Glass Co., Inc.
Bill was a boating enthusiast and loved spending time fishing and crabbing at his second home in Grasonville, MD. He spent many years playing softball for the UMCVFD.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis O. Bliss, Jr.
Bill is survived by his wife of more than 62 years, Janet Painter Bliss, and their four children, Robby Bliss (Theresa), Janell Bliss, Bonnie Golian (Ed) and Julie Thomas, as well as eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 pm on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Rd, Barnesville, MD 20838. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday February 17, 2014, at Poolesville Memorial United Methodist Church, 17821 Elgin Road, Poolesville, MD 20837. Interment will follow at Monocacy Cemetery, in Beallsville, MD.
