Frank Gardner Moore was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, September 25, 1865, son of William Eves and Harriet Francina (Foot) Moore. He was graduated B.A. in 1886 and Ph.D. in 1890 at Yale University. He became assistant professor of Latin and Roman archaeology at Dartmouth College. He later held the post of professor of Latin at Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut. In 1910 he became professor of classical philology at Columbia University and was made professor of Latin there in 1919. He retired in 1937 but remained at the university as professor emeritus until 1942.
For recreation he enjoyed reading and music. He was married in Brooklyn, New York, January 4, 1897 to Anna Barnard, daughter of Charles Trumbull and Georgina (Starin) White, and had four children: Lawrence, Roger, Janet, and Cynthia. Frank G. Moore died in Cleveland, Ohio, November 18, 1955.
