Dee E. Jones, 100, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 in St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage.


Dee Eggeman Jones was born Jan. 4, 1914 in Stotts City, Mo.; a son of the late Homer Lee Jones and Augusta Caroline Eggeman Jones.

He was a graduate of Carthage High School, Class of 1932 and attended the Ozark Wesleyan College, Carthage, Mo.

Dee married Nettie Mae Griffin on Jan. 11, 1946 in Carthage; she preceded him in death on Oct. 29, 1981.

Dee began working at Leggett & Platt in 1951 as an inspector, serving as a foreman for 15 years before retiring in 1979.

Dee loved to work with electronics, woodworking and was a proud stockman with a love for the Polled Herefords.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage, serving as a deacon for many years.

Survivors include two sons; David Dee Jones, wife, Wanda, Claremore, Okla., and Mark Alan Jones, wife, Nancy, Portageville, Mo.; two sisters, Margie Smith, Milford, Mich., and Francis Dyer, Nashville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Jones, Eldon, Mo.; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Dee was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Helen McCabe and a brother, Dwight lee Jones.

Visitation will be held from 3 – 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 17 at the First Baptist Church, Carthage.

Interment will be in Beck Cemetery, Stotts City, Mo.

Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Baptist Church, Carthage.
