Mr. Lynn Roger Byers, 74, of Ft. Loudon, PA passed away at 9:05 AM February 12, 2014 at his home.
Born January 19, 1940 at McConnellsburg, he was a son of Bertha Black Byers of Fayetteville, and the late Lynn A. Byers.
He was employed for 34 years at Mercersburg Tannery. He later worked for R. A. Hill Construction, and was last employed by St. Thomas Towing.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Ft. Loudon, where he attended regularly and was recently appointed an elder. Former volunteer fireman for MMP & W Fire Co of Mercersburg. For a number of years he bowled for the Tannery bowling team. Mr. Byers followed NASCAR, was a good mechanic himself and enjoyed tinkering with lawn mowers and at one time painted vehicles.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Lois F. Helman Byers, whom he married February 13, 1965. Children, Pamela D. & husband Raymond Wagaman of Ft. Loudon, Todd E. & wife Misty Helman of Three Springs, Tracy L. & wife Candi Byers of Chambersburg, Michael C. Redmond of Maryland, Toby E. Byers of Ft. Loudon, Barry E. Redmond of Harrisburg, and Lisa R. & husband Todd Molchan of Ft. Loudon. 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Two sisters, Sheila F. McKee of St. Thomas and Sandra Hawbaker of Waynesboro.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday February 17, 2014 at Trinity UCC of Ft. Loudon with Reverend Valeria Schmidt officiating. Interment at Stenger Hill Cemetery, Ft. Loudon.
Viewing 6 to 8 PM Sunday at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
