KING, NC ~ Mr. Dennis Joel Nichols passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

He was born April 13, 1940 in Hertford County to the late Paul Nichols and Bernice Lassiter Nichols.

Dennis owned and operated Century 21/ Nichols Realty in King. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in King where he served in many roles. He also served on the King Planning Board.

Dennis was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His favorite times were spent boating with his grandchildren at Lake Norman.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by an infant twin brother.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Phelps Nichols; two daughters: Denise Nichols Perry and husband, Chris and Amy Nichols Miller and husband, Lee; four grandchildren: Nick Perry, Seth Miller, Marlee Miller, and Karina Perry; and five siblings: Gene Nichols, Randolph Nichols, Alice Cale, Janice Parker, and Sandra Byrum.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at First Baptist Church in King. Burial will follow in King Memorial Park. Immediately after burial, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 122 Kirby Road, King, NC 27021.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr. David Stallings for his love and guidance.
