David Utz, 75, resident of the Galt-Lodi area since 1934, died late Saturday at his home following an extended illness.
Utz, who lived at 328 E. Walnut, was a native of Russia. He came to the United States in 1905 and first lived in Sugar City, Colo.
Finally moving to Kansas, Utz farmed there for four years and eventually went to Idaho where he homesteaded for 23 years in Minadoca, Ida.
Moving to Galt in 1934, Utz lived there for about four years before moving to the Lodi area where he dairy farmed and raised tomatoes. He retired from this endeavor 10 years ago after a protracted illness.
Utz was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, and eight children: Mrs. Katherine Hanselman, Joseph Utz; Mrs. Lydia Waag, Mrs. Susan Zimmerli, Samuel Utz, Mrs. Sarah Duerr, Mrs. Marie Johnson and George Utz.
He also was the father of the late Pvt. Daniel Utz, U.S. Infantry.
He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and two Sisters, Mrs. Henry Offman and Mrs. Anna Bauer.
