One of three boys rescued nine days ago after falling through the ice of a local pond died yesterday afternoon in Hasbro Children's Hospital, Providence.
Christopher Martini, 7, of 28 Etta St. died at 2:08 p.m. in the intensive care unit, a hospital spokesman said. The boy had been in critical condition since the accident, Dec. 10.
By the time rescuers arrived at Spring Green Pond that Sunday, Christopher had sunk to the bottom of the pond, as had his 9-year-old brother, Thomas , and a friend, 10-year-old Justin Hicks, of 24 Elmhurst St.
Yesterday, doctors were caring for Thomas in a regular patient room, where he was moved last week after his condition was upgraded to satisfactory. Justin Hicks remained in critical condition in intensive care late yesterday.
