Erwin was born August 8, 1919 to John and Christine Geiszler at Gackle, ND. He received his education at Gackle and in 1942 entered the U.S;. Army and served in the Asiatic Pacific until 1945. He was awarded the following medals: American Theatre Service, Bronze Service Arrowhead, and Phillipine Liberation Medal with Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and the Victory Medal.
Erwin married Eileen Schlenker, daughter of George and Emma Fode Schlenker, Alfred, ND on February 23, 1947 at Gackle, ND. Erwin worked at the Deep Rock Service Station from 1946 until 1949 when he became manager of the Gackle Co-op Oil Co. until 1952, when he bought and operated the station. In November 1957, he was appointed as Logan County Treasurer and Logan County Service Officer and retired from that position in December of 1989. Erwin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served on the church council along with lending his voice to the choir. He was also a member of the American Legion Barry-Hoff Post 72. He was a founding member of the Napoleon Golf Club and was an avid golfer until age 90. Erwin enjoyed having coffee with his "coffee buddies". Throughout the years the locations changed, however, the comradeship with his friends always remained constant. His humor was known and appreciated by everyone who knew him. No one was a stranger to him – he felt everyone had a story to tell.
Erwin died Thursday, August 30, 2012 at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, ND. He was 93 years old.
Erwin and Eileen celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on February 23rd. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; three children, Gary (Ann) Geiszler, Gloria (Dave) Magdefrau, Kristie (Tony) Sadowsky; seven grandchildren, and eight great grand-children. Erwin was preceded in death by his parents, John & Christine, four brothers, Edgar, Art, Albert, Reuben, two sisters Lenora Freitas, Leontine Spilloway, one sister-in-law, Mabel, & one daughter-in-law Barbara.
