She attended various country schools in Wayne County before graduating from Corydon High School in 1949.
She married Dale Abel on Sept. 12, 1948 and to this union five children were born Cheryl Dianne, Craig Allen, Peggy Carol, Michael Dale and Karen Lynn.

As well as raising her family and working full time, she managed to volunteer in several organizations including leader of the Richman Rustlers Girl's 4-H Club, an advisor for SHIPP, delivered meals on wheels, was an advisor for Medicare BAC and was an advocate for the Wayne County Coalition against domestic violence.
She had three loves, her children and their families, and her beloved animals with most recently being her dogs Maggie, Ginger Spot and Jackson and her flowers, especially her roses and clematis.
She also enjoyed flying with Benny Davis, genealogy serving as the family historian, connecting with family and friends on Facebook and reading. Politics and medicine were also a passion.
Those left to cherish her memory are children, Cheryl Thompson and husband Jim of Allerton, Craig Abel and Pat Wilkinson of DuBois, Wyo., Peggy Keller and Joe Wright of Milo, Mike Abel and Betty Moore of Corydon and Karen Trumper and Dave Nieland of Indianola; grandchildren, Chance Abel and wife Erin and their children, Coy and Tag and Trent Abel and Erin, all of Jackson, Wyo., Justin Keller and wife Heidi and their daughters Morgan and Madison, Cody Keller and wife Tessa and their daughters Kolbi and Kaitlyn, all of Seymour, Jade Keller of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Trey Abel and Toby Abel of Iowa City and Meg Trumper of Indianola; brother, Don Crawford and sister-in-law Mary Louise of LaMirada, Calif.; sister, Judy Kaufman of Allerton and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Her parents; husband, Dale, who passed away Oct. 3, 1980, granddaughter, Katy Layne Abel, brothers, Robert Crawford and Clell Crawford and sister-in-law, Mary Lou, all of California preceded her in death.
As another great lady said before me, "My life has spoken for itself. For those who have known me, some good I hope… and some bad. For any others, it just doesn't matter."
A memorial as been established to the family to be decided at a later date.
