Samuel A. Strange, resident of the Lodi district since 1911, passed away at 6 o'clock last night at the family home at 402 West Walnut street, following a long illness. He was born in Kentucky and was aged 89 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Strange came to the Lodi district in 1914 from Troy, Texas. Mr. Strange purchased land across the track from the old West Winery and planted it to vineyard. He sold his holdings in 1923 and retired, building the present home on West Walnut street where they have since resided. He was an active member of the First Christian church of Lodi and served as deacon for many years until his recent illness.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Melrose Strange, and the following children: Leonard P. Strange, Roseville; Mrs. Frances Von Gardenheir, Long Beach; Carl Strange, San Jose; Ian M.
