Douglas A. Hersom, 52, of Lunts Hill Road died Wednesday morning at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Saco, a son of Harold F. and Gabrielle Chabot Hersom. He attended Biddeford schools and graduated in 1965 from Biddeford High School.

Mr. Hersom served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.

On March 13, 1971, he married Deborah Blow in St. Joseph's Church, Biddeford.

Mr. Hersom was a steamfitter. He also was a member of the Lewiston Local Union, having worked at Maine Yankee and several Maine paper mills.

Mr. Hersom served as a scoutmaster for a troop in Litchfield.

Surviving are his wife of Litchfield; two sons, Douglas K. and Daryl K., both of Litchfield; a daughter, Darlene S. Hersom of Lisbon; three brothers, Edward of Bazrah, Conn., and David and Thomas, both of Arundel.

Visiting hours will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Church, Biddeford. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Biddeford.
