william fisher of layton dies of
heart trouble while working
in his slaughter house

It was a terrible shock to the
people of layton and vicinity
when the sad news spread that
William fisher had been called
without a moments warning.

He had been out around that
day buying calves and was his
slaughter house killing them
when the end came. he had
knocked four calves down cut
three of their throats and was
just starting on the fourth when
he fell over backwards and expired.

His son who usually helps
him went to adam's pond fish
ing for an hour or so that evening
on returning at about 7
o'clock found his father lying on
his back with his head out of the
slaughter house door.

Dr whitlock was on the spot
in an instant. he said that mr
fisher had died of heart trouble
and had probably been dead
thirty minutes when the doctor
reached there.
Dr whitlocks chauffeur,
reuben kilfoyle soon had jus
ticoe ellis on the spot having
brought him over in the doctors
automobile, but his honor did
not find it necessary to hold an
inquest as it was evident that his
demise was do to natural causes.
he was quite ill last spring
but was enjoying good health
again.
His wife and daughter were in
ogden at the time and did not
return home until about 11 o'clock
that night they had heard that
something had gone wrong
in the family but they did not
know what it was until they arrived
at the home of mrs fishers
mother mrs sandall
william ramsey met them at the
train but would not tell them
the sad news until they arrived
it the above mentioned place

it was an awful blow to mrs
fisher when they finally told
her and she was nearly prostrate
with grief he was a kind
and affectionate husband and
good to his family.
deceased was a native of scotland
and was seventy three years
old last june
for many years he was an
engineer on a ship and in this
capacity visited the principal
ports of the world making five
or more voyages around the
globe.
nineteen years ago
came to utah locating
in layton
where for a number of years he
run the engine for layton
rollermills. then hoe engaged
in business for himself buying
and selling calves pigs etc. he
had a small slaughter house not
far from his home where he
killed the calves that he shipped
or hauled to salt lake
in 1891 heb married Annie
lavender who together with two
children, homer and annie
fourteen and sixteen years old
respectively survive him.
deceased was not identified
with any creed society or lodge
but he was an excellent citizen
and was rated as one of the most
upright and straight forward
won me in the community. he was
very industrious and through I1
liis h economy was enabled to
acquire quite a little property. he
had decided to build a home
on main street having already
contract for the building
to jonathan hughes of farmington

Funeral services were held at
residence at 1 o'clock and in the
layton meeting house at 2 o'clock
wednesday.The speakers
were rev hickman alex Dawson,Bishop David Layton and Lawrence Heywood.
