Miss Martha Emma Wheless, 87, of Ansonville, died October 23, 2004.

A native Ansonian, she was born to the late William Andrew and Violet Cagle Wheless on December 2, 1916.

Miss Wheless was a graduate of Ansonville High School and the Anson Sanatorium School of Nursing in Wadesboro. She was a member of Ansonville Baptist Church and at one time taught a Sunday School class there.

She worked as a nurse at the Sanatorium until after World War II. She then became a public health nurse for the Anson County Health Department, where she worked until retiring. Thereafter she worked part-time at Union Memorial Hospital in Monroe. She was also a genealogist and historian, noted for much work collecting Ansonville history.

The graveside funeral was at 3 pm, October 29, 2004, in the Tyson-Wheless Cemetery near Ansonville.

She is survived by a sister, Ollie W. Brewer of Ansonville; a nephew, two great-nephews; three great-nieces; four great-great nephews; and two great-great nieces.
