Lawrence Carl "L.C." Howard, Jr., 81, of Franklin, died February 10, 2014 at his residence.
A lifelong resident of Macon County, he was the son of the late Lawrence Carl Howard, Sr. and Beatrice Crunkleton Howard. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Craig wife of Jack, of Otto.
After attending Highlands School, he graduated from Franklin High School and Western Carolina Teachers College. After serving in the US Army, he began a 39-year teaching career at Franklin High School. He received a Masters Degree from the University of Illinois in Champagne in Mathematics and from Western Carolina University in Education. In addition to teaching math, he served was the sponsor of many clubs and served on the State Textbook Commission. He was a member of Mulberry United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of United Methodist Men South Macon Charge, taught Sunday School, served as the Lay Leader, chair of committees, and the charge treasurer and had been a member longer than anyone else at the church. Beyond his local church he served as a lay speaker, and on District and Conference committees.
Burial will be in the Mulberry UMC Cemetery.
