Death of Mrs. Jane Adams

Died, at her home eight miles north of Odessa July 8, 1907, Mrs. Jane Adams, age 87 years. Concerning her life the Odessa Democrat prints the following: "Mrs. Adams was perhaps the oldest nation born citizen of Lafayette county, having been born within a few hundred yards of where she passed away. She was a daughter of Richard Powell, who was the first white settler in Washington township, this county. She was married here in 1841 to Eli Adams and to this union thirteen children were born, nine of whom are living, as follows: Richard, Price, Ben, Mrs. Mat King, Mrs. Laura Matthews, and Mrs. Manly Starks, of this county, and W.D. and Jacob, of near Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Lou Davis, of Waldron, Arkansas. Her husband preceded her to the grave in 1892. Mrs. Adams was a member of the Old School Baptist church and one of the good old women of the county. She was sister of Thos. I. and Dave Powell and had numerous other relatives in this vicinity.
