Miss Johnnie Caroline Brice, a daughter of John and Agnes Caroline [née Strong] Brice, was born in the bounds of New Hope Associate Reformed Presbyterian congregation in Douglass, Fairfield County, South Carolina.

On October 26th 1882, Caroline was married to Rev. John Thomas Chalmers, a young A.R.P. minister. This union had seven known children:
Eva (1883-1973)
Mary Agnes (1885-1930)
William Palmer (1886-1959)
Charles Brice "Charlie" (1888-1889)
John Thomas (1890-1891)
James Cuyler (1892-1984)
Infant (1893-1893)

"On Sabbath morning, Mrs. Chalmers, wife of Rev John T. Chalmers, died at the home of her parents in the upper portion of Fairfield county. She was the daughter of Mr. John Brice, a prominent citizen of Fairfield, and in the fall of 1882 was married to Rev. J. T. Chalmers, who, with four children survives her... The remains were buried beside the infant who 'crossed the bar' such a short time before her."
