Obituary Notice, 9 Oct 1950, The Garrett Clipper, Garrett, Indiana:

Injuries Fatal To Mrs. Lloyd Boyd, Aged 24
Injuries suffered in an automobile accident Saturday, Sept. 30, near Helmer resulted in the death Thursday of Mrs. June Rose Boyd, 24, of Battle Creek, Mich., a former resident of near Garrett.

Mrs. Boyd and her husband, Lloyd, were returning to their home in Battle Creek after visiting relatives in DeKalb County. She was sitting in the from seat of a car being driven by her brother-in-law, Estel Boyd of Battle Creek and her husband was sitting between them. Mrs. Estel Boyd and daughter Jeanne, age four years and Billy Lee Boyd, age 11 months, who was to be adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Boyd, were in the back seat.

In the vicinity of Helmer the right hand front car door suddenly opened and Mrs. Boyd rolled out of the auto onto the pavement. As the result of a severe brain concussion she was unconscious most of the time until her death five days later. She was taken to the Cameron Hospital at Angola and she died there at 12:30 a.m. Thursday. Mrs. Boyd was born in Concord Township, DeKalb County, May 30, 1926, a daughter of J. A. and Gladys Penland, both of whom survive and reside in Goshen.

She was united in marriage to Lloyd Boyd in Garrett on Aug 10, 1946. They lived near Garrett until three years ago when they moved to Battle Creek.

Other survivors include six brothers, Jay Penland of near Kendallville, Jack Penland of Garrett and Basil, Olen, Allen and Ned Penland, all of Goshen; five sisters, Mrs. Estel Boyd of Battle Creek, Mrs. Arthur Bailey of Route 2, Auburn, and Delilah, Madonna and Lilah Penland, all of Goshen. The grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Penland, resides in Garrett.

The body was taken to the Ettinger Funeral Home at Waterloo and services were held there at 2 p.m. Saturday. Warren Jones, pastor of the Waterloo Church of Christ, officiated and burial was made in Waterloo Cemetery.
