Mrs. Bernice A. Steffen, 82, of 101 North 4th Street, died at 12:45 a.m. Monday (December 15, 2003) in Blessing Hospital.

Born August 25, 1921 in Quincy, Bernice was the daughter of Warren H. and Ida May Robertson Billings.

She married John R. Steffen in 1945 in Quincy.

Mrs. Steffen was a member of the Women of the Moose, the Eagles Auxiliary, the South Side Boat Club, and the Sunshine Club at the Lincoln Douglas Apartments. She was an avid Cub and Cardinal Baseball fan.

She was employed at Motorola for several years and then at Davis Cleaver for several years until her retirement.

Surviving is one son, Larry Woods and his wife Anita of Quincy; three grandchildren, Carrie Wheppler and her husband Matt of Quincy, Lisa Davis and her husband Den and Laurie Ward and her husband Guy, all of North Fort Myers, Florida.; five step grandchildren, Kevin Nutt, Teresa Schroder and her husband Jay, Dawn Oberdahlhoff, Alisha Oberdahlhoff and Nicole Oberdahlhoff all of Quincy; four great grandchildren, Landon Patrick Wheppler of Quincy, Ashley Davis, Clint Ward, and Travis Ward, all of North Fort Myers, Florida.; five step great grandchildren, Cheyanna Nutt, Jason Schroder, Jamie Schroder, Amber Schroder, and Alexis Oberdahlhoff, all of Quincy; two sisters, Lorean Marshall of Quincy and Beulah A. Steele of LeClaire, Iowa.; and three brothers, William Billings, George Billings and his wife Rosie, and Albert Billings, all of Quincy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert Michael Steffen; and four brothers, James, Arthur, and David Billings, and Robert Jeffries.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Rev. Jerry Harris.

Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to The Crossing.
