Donovan Burl Protzman was the first of three children born to Hough Coombs Protzman and Rosa Lee Houston of Morgantown, West Virginia.

In 1919, he married Stella Elizabeth Lyons and they had three children together.

Marion Lee Protzman (1932-2006)

Donovan was a farmer by profession and he lived and worked in the community of Easton now commonly known as Easton Mill. His original barn still stands to this day. He was an avid spelunker and explored many caves around the region. He also carved his name into many of the caves he visited as proof he had been there.

Donovan was living with his daughter Constance in O'Fallon Township, Missouri at the time of his death. His body was brought back to Morgantown and interred in Mount Union Cemetery beside his wife Stella and beloved grandson Roger Lee Protzman.
