Robert D. "Bud" Settle, age 93, of Bloomington, died Wednesday morning at his home. Born February 22, 1919 in Frankfort, Indiana, he was the son of Earl Douglas and Gladys (Starkey) Settle. He retired from R.C.A. after 31 years of service where he worked in the Consumer Acceptance Lab and later worked at the Indiana University Golf Course Driving Range well into his 80's. He was a member of American Legion Post #18 and the Elk's Lodge #446, both in Bloomington and attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda Rae and John Mitchner, of Bloomington; one step-son, Don Guy, of Bloomington, one sister, Gladys Shelton, of New Whiteland, Indiana; one brother and sister-in-law, James F. and Betty Jo Settle, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Andy Hudson (Dee), of Bloomington, Janet Crossan, Mary Lynn Feeback, and Jennifer Nobis, all of Cache, Oklahoma, Sara Wilkinson, of Athens, Georgia, Rebecca Wilkinson Watts, of Annandale, Virginia; two step-grandchildren, Misty Schaeffer (Darin), Matt Mitchner (Alissa); ten great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Edna E. (Stout) Settle, in 1998, his parents, one brother, Charles Settle, two infant brothers and his step-daughter, Sandra Kay Wilkinson in 2011.
Private family services will be held on Saturday at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington with Rev. Richard Borden officiating with the Veterans Honor Guard performing military graveside rites. Burial will follow in the Elk's Garden in the cemetery. There will be no public visitation prior to the services.
The family suggests to friends who wish that memorial contributions be given to the charity of their choice.
