Donald was born November 20, 1940, to Bennet and Helga (Larson) Larson in Garnes Township, Oklee, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran rural Oklee.

Donald was the youngest of eleven children. Born with cerebral palsy, he had many surgeries. He was also legally blind.

Donald's father passed away before he was born and his mother was ill and confined to a wheelchair within a few years after his birth.

At age five, Donald attended Anne Carlson School in Jamestown, ND and lived with sister Leona and husband Martin Sletto for two years, then he became a resident at the school. He would go home for Christmas and summer vacation. During the time he was in Jamestown, he made many good friends and learned to play guitar and sing. He enjoyed entertaining and did so for many years around Minnesota, North Dakota and Montana. While in Montana, he stayed with brother, Ernest and family. He always found interesting people to get to know. Donald spent quite a bit of time with brother, Bennet and family in St. Paul and surrounding area.

While living on the home farm with brother, Engvald, sister, Ruth and mother and later Leona and son, he developed a love of horses. Over the years, he had several, but some were favorites like Queenie, a beautiful palomino and Princess, who competed as a jumper in Madison Square Garden. Donald rode his horses around the area selling Mason Shoes. He was welcomed into many homes for a meal or visit or to spend the night. Over the years he made many good and faithful friends wherever he lived. He met and made friends with Pastor Verlyn Strenge, 1st Baptist Church in Clearbrook, MN and became a member of that church. Donald attended the School for the Blind in Faribault, MN for 2 years and also went to school in Oklee for some time.

Donald loved the country, his horses, the farm and he wrote and played songs about the things he loved.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Helga; brothers, Goodwin, Engvald, Alvin and wife, June (Langevid), sister Leona and husband, Martin Sletto; brothers-in-law, Clifford Hegge and Richard Neff and Nephew, Greg Sletto.

Survivors include sisters, Gunda Hegge, Ruth Neff, Elna Halle all of Oklee, MN; brothers, Martin (Edna) Larson, Alexandria, MN, Ernest (Ortista), Chinook, MT and Bennet (Virginia) Larson, Oklee, MN and many nieces and nephews.
