Son of Joseph Chatigny & Susan McGinnis Chatigny.

Joseph served as a Seaman, First Class, U.S.S. Harding (DD-625), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

The Harding, while supporting the landings at Okinawa, was attacked along with other U.S. ships by Japanese kamikazes. The Harding was hit by one of the kamikazes but survived the attack and the war. She lost 14 crewmen killed, 8 missing, and 9 wounded.

Joseph was "Killed In Action" in this attack during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

The Harding received three battle stars for World War II service.
