Emma Ruth Morris Carr, 76, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Country Church, 2512 Ave. J with the Rev. Ray Milhoan officiating.

Emma was born Nov. 25, 1937, in Dallas to Opal Mae Simpson and Selles George Morris. Emma Ruth's grandmother, Clara Reed, raised her after Opal Mae died when Emma was 6 months old. They lived in Kansas City, Mo., where Emma attended school and graduated from R.T. Cales Vocational High School in 1954. Emma then attended Marymount College School of Nursing in Salina, Kan., and graduated with a degree in nursing in 1958. Ms. Carr's nursing career spanned more than 50 years. She retired from State of Arizona Department of Corrections in 2002. After retiring, Ms. Carr returned to Amarillo to be near her extended family.

Survivors include the Shortens, Williams, Mitchell and Knighten families; her beloved dog, Butch; a host of friends; a halfsister, Florence of Wisconsin and a halfbrother, Selles Jr. of Chicago; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dinner will follow the service at the church.
