QUEENSBURY, N.Y. - Bernetta "Krusey" (Kruse) Stokes, of Queensbury, passed away on Wednesday, June 8th 2011.

She was born on March 2nd 1924 in Jackson County, Iowa, she was the daughter of John L. A. and Alvina (Schlueter) Kruse.

She graduated from Preston High School in 1941, and from Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa in 1945, with a B.S. degree in Foods and Nutrition.

On completion of her internship at the Grasslands Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y., she became a member of the American Dietetic Association and continued on the clinical staff at Grasslands the following year.

In 1947, she married Raymond H. Stokes and lived in Stuttgart, Germany, for two years, where Dr. Stokes served a tour of duty in the Army Medical Corps.

Krusey was active in the community. For many years she volunteered in Glens Falls Hospital Guild, at one time serving as chairman of branches.

She was a president of the Warren and Washington Counties Medical Auxiliary, a member of the Glens Falls League of Women's Voters, New York Dietetic Association, Hudson Valley Dietetic Association, and Aging Services Dietitians of New York State.

She served on the boards of Family Services Association, and Adirondack Home Aides, was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, N.Y. and Secretary of the Presbyterian Women's Association for several years. She was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter BX.

After time off to raise her family, in 1974, she became head of the newly formed Cooperative Extension Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program in Warren and Hamilton Counties.

In 1976, she began work as the registered dietitian for the Warren and Hamilton Counties Office for the Aging Nutrition Program, retiring in 1986.

Krusey was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, in 1992, one brother; Marvin Kruse, and one sister; Lois Ingwersen.

Arrangements by the Sullivan-Minahan & Potter Funeral Home in Queensbury, N.Y.

Burial at the Pine View Cemetery in Queensbury, N.Y. and a memorial gathering will be at the convenience of the family.
