South Hadley, Mass. - Lawrence was called to rest on Feb. 7, 2014. He resided at the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke. Lawrence was a graduate of Kittanning High School in Kittanning, PA. He moved to this area when he was stationed at Westover Air Force Base and was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #63 for over 50 years, the American Legion, Mount Tom Lodge A.F. & A.M., as well as an active member in the Shriners. Larry was an avid pool player and enjoyed a challenge against his friends at the Masons Lodge and at the Council on Aging in South Hadley. Lawrence was the son of the late John A. Calhoun and Mary Maude (Baum) Calhoun of Goheenville, PA. He was predeceased by his brother Ernest and sister Ruby Calhoun of PA as well as his long-time companion, Victoria Kochian of South Hadley. Lawrence is survived by his former wife, Barbara Dawn (Parker) Walz and his sons, Richard, Ronald and Glenn, and his daughter, Cheryl Bisson and her husband Camilio. He is the grandfather of Kyle Bisson, and Kaisey, Robert, Chelsea, Wesley and Ashley Calhoun all of South Hadley. Calling Hours will be on Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 5-7pm in the Ryder Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley. Committal Services with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 10am in the chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA, 01001. Donations in his memory may be made to either the Shriners Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA, 01104-2396 or to the Council on Aging, 45 Dayton St., South Hadley, MA, 01075. His family would like to extend their thanks to the members of the Life Choice Hospice at the Soldiers' Home for their wonderful care of Lawrence.
