KLOTZ, Donald Sr...Wilton resident Donald Klotz Sr., a veteran of both World War II and the Korean conflict, and for more than four decades an integral part of the community, died June 3 at age 85. Klotz enlisted in the Navy in 1942 at age 17 and served four years as a radioman-gunner with the Black Cat Squadron VP-23, stationed in the Pacific. In 1990, the 50th anniversary of WWII, Don organized the first Reunion of his VP-23 squadron. He started publishing a monthly newsletter called the Black Cat Log, to help locate surviving members, and to collect documents and stories. The wealth of material he gathered inspired him to write a collective memoir about the valiant exploits of the Navy's PBY squadrons. The book is titles "On Hell's Perimeter: Pacific Tales of PBY Patrol Squadron 23 in WWII.".
