Joyce Marlene Garz Goodwin, 79, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2014 at her home in Idaho Falls, with her family at her side. She was under the care of Hands of Hope Hospice. She was born in St. Anthony, on September 18, 1934, to Paul and Lenora Garz. She spent the first part of her life living in Squirrel, Idaho, from 1934 to 1947, at which time they moved to Ashton. In the fall of 1952 she attended Kinman Business University where she took a secretarial course at Spokane, Washington. After finishing the course she went to work for the Department of Health and Welfare in Boise and Rexburg. She worked for Westinghouse and Phillips at the I.N.E.E. L. and also worked at First Security Bank in Idaho Falls. She married William R. (Bill) Goodwin in the fall of 1956. They had three sons, Paul, Chris, and Phillip Goodwin. Her hobbies were crocheting, collecting rocks and old antiques, camping, fishing, and sightseeing.
Survivors include her sons, Paul (June) Goodwin of Tooele, Utah, Chris (Dena) Goodwin and Phil (Sheila) Goodwin both of Idaho Falls; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Stacy, Zack, Jason, Terra, Cody, Richard, Michael, and Jessica; and fourteen great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her mother, father, and one great grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home, 825 E. 17th Street in Idaho Falls. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday, both at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 290 7th Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho 83404.
The family would like to thank Hands of Hope Hospice for the loving care of their mother.
