Born March 25, 1954 in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Carl and Hazel (Thompson) Hatton.
He married Janie Cherry on June 16, 1972 in Indianapolis.
James was a 1972 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School.
He worked for General Motors in Indianapolis for thirty years, retiring in 2008. James enjoyed playing golf, and was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan.
James also achieved the level of Eagle Scout.
He is survived by his wife, Janie, a daughter, Lisa (Randy) Barnhart, a brother, Bob (Becky) Hatton, and grandson Austin Barnhart.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
