W.B. Mertens Dies in City

William B. Mertens, 64, of Two Rivers, president of the county fair board and supervisor of the county board from Two Rivers for 20 years, died this afternoon at the Holy Family hospital. Mr. Mertens had been ill for several months and was moved to the hospital several days ago.

He was engaged in the oil business in Two Rivers for many years but sold out his interest in the Lake Park Oil company a year ago. He had been on the fair board for 18 years, and last year was named president, succeeding
the late L.O. Rehm of Kiel.

Thirty three years ago he married Miss Elva Heyroth. She survives with a daughter, Mrs. Russell Luebke of Janesville; three brothers, Fred, Arthur and Norman Mertens of Two Rivers; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Ownes of Two Rivers and Mrs. E.H. Meineke of Chicago; and a stepbrother, John Goedjen of Two Rivers.

Funeral plans will be announced Tuesday.
