Terri Lynn Martin, 55, was born on Aug. 28, 1958, in Great Falls, to Mary Ann Schultz Martin and Lester Merrill Martin. Terri's father was in the Air Force at the time, stationed at the Great Falls Air Base. As a young child, Terri traveled to Japan with her parents.

Terri was placed at the Boulder River School and Hospital on April 14, 1964. She was discharged from Boulder on June 1, 1971, and placed in the Archie and Novenda Black foster home in Butte. From there, Terri moved to the Paul Clark Home in Butte on March 31, 1978, where she remained until she was placed in a temporary group home located at 1225 W. Platinum St. in Butte on Feb. 6, 1987. On Feb. 18, 1988, Terri moved to the Rahn Group Home, 930 S. Dakota St. in Butte. She remained there until the time of her death on Feb. 5, 2014.

Terri attended Special Education classes in Butte until she began work at the Butte Sheltered Workshop, now known as BSW, Inc. on Sept. 2, 1980. At the time of her death, Terri was still a valued worker in the Manufacturing Division of BSW, Inc.

Terri was blessed with both her biological family, who kept in close contact with her, and her BSW family, both at work and the Rahn Group Home. Many of Terri's Rahn family preceded her to heaven and we have no doubt that Mary Lou, Margaret, Kathy, and Diana have welcomed Terri to her new home. Most likely, they are having a little party and enjoying some treats.

Terri was very fond of her treats, particularly cookies, ice cream and her precious Diet Pepsi. Terri's very favorite thing in the world was watching TV and being in charge of the remote. Terri did not like sharing the remote with her housemates and would regularly hide it so she could choose which TV programs they watched. Terri was in charge of getting the mail every day at the group home. It was her job and no one else was allowed to do it.

In addition to her family, Terri was loved by many, many consumers and staff at BSW, most notably in recent years her boyfriend, Steve, and good friend, Torrie. Terri got along with everyone, but had a stubborn streak. Once she made up her mind, there was no changing it. She loved her routine and did not take kindly to those who tried to change it. She insisted on having the same seat on the van every day and would not hear of moving elsewhere. One of her jobs at BSW was working on the kindling package production line. She made sure everyone stayed on task and got after them when they didn't. There was no doubt in anyone's mind about who the boss was.

Terri loved the color purple and kitty cats with all her heart. None of us will ever see a purple kitty cat without thinking of Terri.

Terri is survived by her mother, Mary Ann Burkstrand; sister, Cathy Drost; brother, Jerre Martin, all of Great Falls; brother, Lionel Martin of Maine; and aunt, Bobbie Burkstrand of Great Falls. Terri was preceded in death by her father, Lester Martin; and step-father, Bernerd Burkstrand.

Terri left this world very peacefully, after a happy day of visiting with her friends and loved ones. She ate some of her favorite foods, drank numerous cans of Diet Pepsi, shared a lot of laughs and basked in the attention she was getting. Even when she dozed off, Terri had a great big smile on her face — she was happy to be going home.

We all love you Terri and we will miss you! Fly free and enjoy reuniting with your friends and family.

Terri's Butte family will hold a viewing and small memorial service tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Duggan Dolan Mortuary, 1805 Meadowlark, Butte.

A memorial service will also be held on Saturday, March 29. Details will be available at a later date.
