David Roy Dodge, 65, formerly of Statesville, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at the Murdoch Developmental Center in Butner, NC.
Mr. Dodge was born January 3, 1949 in Prince Edward County, VA and was the son of the late Junior Daniel Rogers and Edith Robinette Rogers, who survives of Statesville, NC. He was a graduate from High School in Levittown, PA and attended various workshops for the mentally challenged. David participated in many of the Special Olympics in the area. He loved to travel and had a great love for animals. David also loved classical music and playing with a deck of cards. David loved living at Murdoch center and going on group outings.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sisters, Alma Rogers, Linda Summers, Margaret Englebert (Steve), two brothers, Dan Rogers, William Rogers (Angela) all of Statesville and a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Porter officiating. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Thursday 1:00-2:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Parkview Cottage, c/o Murdoch Center, 1600 E.C. Street, Butner, NC 27509.
The family would like to give a very special thanks to all staff, technicians, nurses and doctors that touched David's life, for you all truly made a wonderful difference in David's life.
